Obituary of Ada Evelyn O'Neill

O’NEILL, Ada Evelyn August 22, 1918 Bobcaygeon, Ontario May 19, 2014 Airdrie, Alberta Ada Evelyn O’Neill (nee Purdy) passed away on Monday May 19, 2014 at the age of 95 years. Ada was born and raised in Bobcaygeon, Ontario where she married the love of her life Maxwell O’Neill on May 31, 1941. In 1943 their daughter Linda Maxine was born and in 1946 their son James Paul arrived. Ada was involved with the church and church groups as well as other organizations in town. In the early 50’s the family moved to Toronto and Ada became very involved in the church and community there as well. After a few years she began a career working as a bookbinder and member of the Graphics Communications Union. She enjoyed her job and stayed with it for over 20 years. Upon retiring in 1983 she decided to return to her home town and built a new home on a property that she loved. So began the next phase of her life tending to her lawns and gardens and as always, providing love and support to her family.. She certainly loved gardening and looking after her plants, adding new ones every year. She was an avid knitter and was great at crocheting and quilting. She re-established her interests in the church and as a volunteer in the community until she gave up driving when she was 90 years old. In 2012 Ada decided to relocate closer to her daughter in Alberta as her sight was diminishing and she was finding it difficult to keep up her home and property. She moved in June of 2012 to Airdrie, Alberta and immediately began making new friends. She became a much loved member of the retirement community and her sense of humour kept everyone laughing. Ada will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Maxine (Dave) Hutt, daughter-in-law Jean O’Neill (Jim), six grandsons, Scott (Andrea), Jason (Tammy), Brian (Christina), Jeffrey (Laurie), Dalton (Victoria), Michael (Thera) and ten great-grand children. As well as her sister Dudy McCullum (Mac), brother Ralph Purdy (Janet) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Max O’Neill, son Jim, son-in-law David Hutt, sister Ruby, brothers Bill and Doug and her parents Roy and Florence Purdy. She was an extremely loving and caring lady and will be greatly missed by all. Friends and relatives are invited to Celebrate Ada’s Life on Friday September 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, MONK CHAPEL, 6 Helen St., Bobcaygeon.
