Mr.Leahy was my chemistry teacher at Napanee D.S.S. back in 1966, and I was truly saddened to hear of his death from his sister. It must have been very early in his teaching career, and he impressed us as young, shy, and very keen about teaching us chemistry. His passion for chemistry inspired me to become a chemistry teacher, in an era when few girls majored in chemistry.
Teachers can have a huge impact on literally thousands of students over their careers, and too rarely we make an opportunity to simply say thank you to them for their efforts, which often go beyond the classroom. After graduation, students scatter around the globe, and are unaware of what happens to their former teachers.
To his relatives and friends, rest assured that his students did appreciate him, and will never forget him. We were very fortunate to have him as a teacher.
