Obituary of Alyce Stricek
STRICEK, Alyce
With much sadness, Alyce Stricek (Saniga) has left us on January 26, 2016 at the age of 85. Devoted mother to Derrick (Irene,) Tanya (Al) and loving Nana to much cherished Emma. Our mom was determined. She was the only girl in an aeronautical engineering class at Central Technical School in Toronto. She started driving at 13 years of age and in her new independence never looked back. Alyce loved flying, painting, cooking, creating, and writing. She loved her home and neighbours around Faversham Crescent, where she had a garden that could not be duplicated. She lived through a World War, cancer and defied all odds at West Park Long Term Care Centre. Her bravery, feistiness and courage kept her with us as long as she had the energy to fight. Our mom believed that life was for the living and did not want a funeral service. In her honour please say a kind word, or do a kind deed. You never know how that may change a persons life. Alyce had a big heart, loved children and came from Native Cree descent. In lieu of flowers we request your consideration in donating to DayStar Native Outreach, a charity that helps First Nations children with summer camp and guidance. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. We pray you have that serenity mom…and love you dearly. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com.
