Obituary of Douglas MacLeod White
WHITE: Douglas MacLeod
6 February 1924 – 2 February 2017
Dad passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre with family by his side on Thursday February 2, 2017, just four days shy of his 93rd birthday. Loving husband of the late Mildred (Smith) “Midge”. Sadly missed by his children Don (Monica), Alex (Sue) and Kathy (Ian). Cherished grandpa to Virginia (Byron), Blake (Chantel), Owen and Graeme, and special great grandpa to Keiara and Brianna. Survived by his sisters-in-law Helen (late Rod) Stalport and Joyce (late Frank) Moore and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Blake and Mary (MacLeod) White and special cousin Mary Karon (Bert). Doug was a proud veteran of the R.C.A.F. in WWII and felt honoured to serve on the bench as a Justice of the Peace for the Province of Ontario for forty years, as well as a Freemason for over fifty years with West Hill Lodge, Scarborough and later Clementi Lodge in Lakefield. He was an active member of Washington United Church, Scarborough and George Street United Church, Peterborough for many years. As a child, summers were enjoyed at the family cottage in Norway Bay and later with his own family at the Clear Lake cottage where he delighted in taking family and friends for a ride in his boat. In recent years, he had great pleasure sitting in his sunroom watching the birds in his backyard while sharing cookies or Timbits with his canine companion Sasha. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of B4 at P.R.H.C. and to Doug’s support workers at home for all their kind and compassionate care. A funeral service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Visitation two hours prior to the service.
