Obituary of Roscoe Russell Wiles

WILES; Rosco Russell “Ross” Passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 22, 2017 in his 88th year. He was born on March 5th, 1929 to Elizabeth and Ross Wiles. Ross has been a resident of Lakefield since his early teens. He was best known as a “pillar” of the community and co-founded our local food bank with his predeceased wife and love of his life Dolores Wiles. They married after love at first sight. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage. He was also the last of the good ole boys that lived on “Hydro Hill” Strickland Street, where he and Dolores raised their children and all of their family. Ross was an active member of the St. John The Baptist Anglican Church as a warden and volunteer. Always giving his time to the community food bank, and sea scouts. Any outdoor adventure excited Ross, especially when it included his family. He enjoyed many trips across the country and abroad. Camping, sailing, fishing, and canoeing are many of the pastimes he loved to do. Sharing these moments along side his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant so much to him. Downsview hunting camp is one of the places he shared many memories and developed close friendships while bonding with his family. There is no greater testament to Ross than the love of his family. Ross is survived by dear wife Loreen. Proud father to Glenna Hockaday (Arnie), Monty Wiles (Karen), and Gloria (the Late Dave Holland). Loving grandfather to Sheri Hockaday (Jennifer), Steven Hockaday (Rhonda), Scott Hockaday (Amanda), Heather Martin (Dan), Janelle Surge (Paul), Jessica Wiles, and Caitlynn Wiles (Shale). Beloved great-grandfather to Kortney (Eric), Nick (Jessie), Haley, Hayden, Stefanie, Ashton, Clayton, Cole, Lucy, Laura, Amelia, Ariana, and Eleanor. Caring great-great-grandfather to Peyton and Ross. Ross always made everyone feel like a part of his family. A friendship grew to a brotherhood with Terry Caverly who was and will always will be part of the family. A special bond formed with his neice Jill Longo (Sam), daughter of predeceased sister Vivian (Jack) Lacey. He leaves behind siblings Viola Keates (the Late Harold), and Lawrence “Smokey” Wiles (Alice) along with his loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The legacy Ross has left for his family is truly how to love, he had so much love to give and share. He mentored his family how to have a beautiful marriage, be a wonderful parent, and to be a great friend. He showed them how to work hard, enjoy nature, be with your family, be there for friends in need, and how to live your life to the fullest. A funeral service will be held on Monday March 27, 2017 at St. John The Baptist Anglican Church in Lakefield at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Lakefield Cemetery following the funeral service.
