Passed away suddenly at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Thursday February 15, 2018. Derek Try of Lakefield, formerly of Ayr and Kitchener in his 88th year. Derek was born in England in 1930 to Archibald and Alice Try and in 1957 moved to Canada with his wife Mary. He worked for many years with Halo Lighting before opening his own lighting store “The Light Touch”, in Kitchener. He enjoyed creating stained glass art for many years and along with his wife Judy, they opened and operated Roxburgh Kennels near Ayr, Ontario until their move to Lakefield in 2013. Survived by his children Reg Try (Sue), Susan Chojnacki, David Try (Kim) and Melissa Try (Rob Simmons). Also survived by his step-sons Scott Davidson (Rebekah Littlejohn) & Andrew Davidson. Loving grandpa of Cameron & Katelynd Chojnacki, Matthew Try (Jenn), Emily & Abby Simmons, and Christine, Liam and Ewan Davidson. Derek is predeceased by his wife Judy Davidson (2017) and his first wife Mary Morgan (2017). Derek was greatly loved and will be missed by many in the area. He kept his charming English accent, his quick wit and silly faces until the end. A funeral service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Wednesday February 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Hillside Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Heritage Room of the Funeral Home.
