James Andrews

Obituary of James Gerald Andrews

On May 23, 1927 James Gerald Andrews was born in Dummer Township, son of Lillian Gardner & Gerald Andrews. Jim was raised and educated in Dummer Township and Norwood and at a young age worked farming.  On February 11, 1946 he married Duella Bernice Hockaday in Peterborough and over the years they lived in both Lakefield and Peterborough while Jim was employed at Outboard Marine. After retirement they lived for several years on the Old Young’s Point Road before once again returning to Lakefield.

Jim was a very outgoing man who enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. His outdoor activities included hunting with the members of the hunt club, fishing, snowmobiling and gardening. In his leisure, Jim liked a game of cards or some quiet time reading, watching his favourite TV programs or listening to country music. Together with Duella he had experienced Canada from coast to coast, travelled to the British Isles and wintered in Florida for ten years. In his younger years Jim enjoyed track and field and later his interests turned to golf and bowling. He also was active in helping to organize lacrosse, working with Scouts Canada and helping in hockey. Jim was a member of the United Church of Canada, the A.O.T.S. Men’s Club, the Oddfellows,  Golden Years Seniors and also Volunteered at Community Care.
