Greetings and condolences to the family and to Leona'ba's husband who has lost his life partner for a time, but it won't be long until you are together again.
I have had the privilege of seeing Leona from time to time in lakefield and have noticed that she exemplifies many of the qualities which are in her sister Louise with whom I have worked and who I am honoured to call my friend.
Kind, hard working, sensible, never mean and no mean words, thoughtful and caring - really, truly caring. What a great family. You are all very fortunate, but you have earned it by being good people.

Sending deep condolences to Leona’s family and friends. Leona was our high school First Nation”s student counsellor in North Bay. She was there to help us adapt to our new homes (boarding home) and adjust tto new surroundings away from family and community, She was always encouraging students to be involved in school activities, and activities of the Native Friendship Centre. She stressed to all students the importance of having a good education and not be afraid of barriers that you may face. We had our challenges but she was always a very caring and loving woman. Sorry for your loss. Leona was a beautiful, kind person with a soft kind voice. When she first came to Curve Lake, she lived with me for a short while. She taught my son. She would shake her head, smile and say “those boys”. Lol. Leona always asked about him when we would meet. A truly genuine beautiful soul!

Leona spent a lot of time with us First Nations students in North Bay; she brought us to her home, brought us to many activities & events in North Bay. She brought us to church too. I enjoyed the time spent with her. She made living in a new community very welcoming. She was a loving and very caring woman.

Our family is so saddened by the news of Leona's passing. She taught both my children Kindergarten and was so kind and loving toward them. She started their school careers off on the right path!! Leona was also a mentor to me as I entered the field of Early Childhood Education. We will remember her with gratitude and respect for her kind and generous spirit. Leona was my Anishnaabemowin teacher when I first moved to Lakefield. She kindly shared her time with me each week to teach me her language, and welcomed me so warmly as my classroom teacher in Grade 3. I will always remember her kindness and compassion, which she shared with all of her students, even when we pushed her buttons. My whole family valued the friendship we have had with the Davidsons over the years, and our thoughts are with you all during this very difficult time. Leona's spirit lives on through Sophie, and will live forever in John's heart. Sending you strength.
