Obituary of Margaret "Margot" McLean (nee Salter)

Surrounded by her family, Margot peacefully passed in her 86^th year at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Saturday, September 28^th, 2018. Margot was born to Percy Ellis and Bertha Mary Salter in Toronto on November 14, 1932.  She completed her B.A. at UBC and while at university, she joined the RCAF Reserves, which took her to Whitehorse, Yukon, the first stop on her world travels.  Margot taught in Peterborough for many years and took advantage of the teacher exchange program to travel and teach in Australia. In her retirement, Margot started Black Giant Kennels, breeding her beloved Newfoundland dogs. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Margot acted for many years in the Peterborough Theatre Guild, as well as Trent University’s Magic Circus Theatre, which took her to Greece for a wonderful summer where she acted in Lysistrata at the Parthenon. She might say that her biggest adventures were raising her three children, Karen Christie (Bill Clarke), Kathy Smith (Dave Trenholm) and Mark Smith (Alejandra). She is adored by her grandchildren Rachel, Evie, Caleb, Miguel, Alejandro, Alden, Jacob, Madeline and Sandy and by her great grandchildren Oliver, Chloe, Harper, Cash, Bear, Colin, Eileen, Malila and Isaac. Margot was predeceased by her sister Nancy Friedman and her very special friend and companion Archie.  She is survived by her sister Kathryn Eaton (Don), and her brother Bill Salter (Dorothy) and many nieces and nephews. Our beautiful, fun loving mom will be remembered for her zest for life, her artistic talent and her never ending brood of Newfoundland dogs. We would like to thank the staff and caregivers at St. Joseph’s at Fleming for their care and compassion over the past 7 years, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff at PRHC. You will be forever missed, Mom. We love you so much. Friends and family will be received at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen St. Lakefield, on Friday October 5^th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at the funeral home on Saturday, October 6^th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, with memories shared at 2:30 PM.  Interment at Hillside Cemetery, Lakefield.
