Obituary of Barbara Gail Russell
On September 25, 1941, Barbara Gail Rae was born in Norwood to parents Joe and Violet, their only girl of 5 children. Barb was raised in Norwood and on February 9, 1962 married the love of her life Melvyn Irwin Russell. Soon after they started their own family and a wonderful life was well on its’ way. Barb was an artist, both with a paintbrush and icing. She was a master cake decorator, creating many wedding masterpieces throughout the years in the Norwood & Bancroft areas. She loved her two grandsons very much. The three of them were always finding new ways to play tricks on Grandpa and crazy new ways to have fun. At Christmas they had the best gingerbread houses around, made with the help of grandma's hands. Barb was an avid crafter and made many quilts, sewing, knitting and crochet projects. Barb loved the game of golf and made many long-lasting friends during her rounds. Barb and Mel enjoyed travelling south for many years, but nothing compared to their oasis on Diamond Lake
On Friday November 2, 2018, Barb passed peacefully at Pleasant Meadow Manor in Norwood. Barb will be loved and missed by her husband of 56 years Mel, her children Suzanne McKean (Brent) and Peter (Loreen), her two grandsons Nolan and Wade How, brothers John, Dan (Betty) and Bob (Phyllis) and many nieces and nephews.
