Obituary of Laila "Maxine" Sherlock-Hubbard

SHERLOCK- HUBBARD, Laila “Maxine”(nee Morrison)
Passed away peacefully at Extendicare Lakefield, on Tuesday November 20, 2018.  Maxine Sherlock-Hubbard of Lakefield in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Frank Sherlock Hubbard. (d. Oct, 2012).  Loving Mother of Carol (Bob), Paul (Geri), Warren (Heather), and Shelagh (Dennis). Dear Grandmother of Scott, Erin, Matthew, Andrew, Evan, Nolan, Shane, Stephanie and Stacie and Great-Grandmother of Cayden, Madison, Owen, Dillon, Violet, Rowan, Reece, Nora and Aiden. Maxine spent her early years in Kingston, and later Toronto.  She married Frank, her childhood chum, On June 29, 1946. They celebrated 66 years of marriage, during which time they had four children.  Mom had always wanted to continue her education and finally had her opportunity of going back to school and becoming a social worker.  She worked with the Kawartha Children’s Aid Society until retirement.  It was her true calling, and because of her empathy and humanity, she was much loved and respected by those she protected.  Mom was well known for her sense of humour and compassion.  Maxine always made celebrations like birthdays and Christmas special, with little money, lots of imagination and much love. As well as building the family home on the 7th line of Smith, Mom and Dad built their cottage on Simcoe Island, just “two ferry rides” from Kingston.  All the grandchildren have treasured memories of the cottage.  After Dad passed away, Mom eventually resided at Extendicare Lakefield.  The wonderful caring staff there became a second family for her and for that we are thankful to all…for what they have done and continue to do for others. A funeral service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, on Wednesday November 28th at 12:00pm with visitation to commence one hour prior.  Reception in the Heritage Room of the funeral home following the service.  As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling (705) 652-3355.
