It was with shock to see the death notice for Mary.It brought an awful lot of wonderful memories from years ago when she and I were very close.
I met her when joining the staff of general practice at Women's College Hospital in 1957 after returning from Halifax. We were very close and shared similar ideas regarding the world and medicine. I used to see her regularly when my children were infants (long ago) and she loved to play and engage with them.
Unfortunately our paths went in different directions as I did post graduate training in dermatology and we didn't see each other as often. We kept in touch though, including through patients that she referred to me.
Mary was a wonderful person and as was mentioned in her obituary, she cared for her patients a great deal. I will always remember her great sense of humour as she kept me and my late husband in stitches!
Unfortunately none of us last forever, but I gather that she had a very fulfilling life.
My deepest condolences to her family,
Dr. Sophie Hofstader
