I was shocked and saddened to read the news of Ms Mitchell's passing. My sons attended Lord Elgin PS years ago. As a parent volunteer at the school, I remember seeing Ms Mitchell in the hallways of the school and interacting with her. She loved teaching and her students. My condolences to her family and friends. She was taken too soon--RIP Tara.

I enjoyed working with Tara for a number of years and I was always impressed by her dedication to her students and her work, as well as her love for her family. She always went the extra mile to make her classes interesting and at the same time fun for her students, who adored her. Tara also always took the time to plan and organize plays, talent shows, etc., which she did with an infectious enthusiasm. Often at the end of a busy day, Tara would come to my office and we would chat about the day's activities as well as everything under the sun, and we always had good laughs together. Tara was dedicated, warm, fun-loving, outgoing, talented and creative. She was a wonderful person and teacher - may she rest in peace. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Tara's family.

I am deeply sorry for your loss, my family and I send our condolences to you.
My parents; Joe and Toni Griffin, want to thank Ms.Mitchell for her guidance and being a wonderful teacher to my sister; Stephanie Griffin, and I.
Ms. Mitchell was one of the greatest teachers I’ve ever had and we grew very close towards the end of my elementary school journey as she was my grade 8 teacher. She was the reason for many of my achievements, she pushed me to perform to my fullest ability and because of that I graduated with Honours. There was a special award too at the time that I really wanted to receive and that was the visual arts award. I had talked with her about it as I showed my artistic ability very much all throughout school, she told me that it is something she couldn’t decide, but that it may be in the cards for me. During the graduation ceremony she said a piece dedicated to two people; little did I know one of those people was going to be me. Ms.Mitchell supported me through many things, we laughed together easily, and most of all she let me do hairstyles to her during gym class. Her strength, inspiration, and drive to give her all in everything she did is something us students who had the privilege to be taught by her will always cherish.
These are the memories I will hold with me for her, including every hug I went in for!
Thank you Ms.Mitchell, you will be missed and in all of our hearts forever. May you rest in peace❤️

Shocked to hear this news, both of my kids attended Lord Elgin throughout their elementary school years, which is a long time ago now. I remember her being a very nice, helpful teacher, always smiling, just as she is in this picture. My condolences to her family & friends, Ms. Mitchell was definately taken too soon, I know she will be dearly missed.

I have known Tara since she was a 16 year old high school student here in Lakefield. Tara was a bright, gregarious, intelligent and a very funny young lady. She grabbed life with both hands and ran with whatever project she had undertaken. She excelled at school and later in her work as a teacher. If she had not been a teacher her other calling would have been interior designer or artisan. We as a family have been fortunate to have been the recipient of some of her beautiful handcrafted quilts. Tara was generous and thoughtful and would come up with beautiful gifts for all occasions. She loved Christmas and her Christmas eve boxes would be filled with wonderful gifts that were to be opened only on Christmas eve. Tara has left us with many wonderful memories. Till we meet again Tara. With love Cathy Taylor and Family
