I have just finished watching the service for Sandy - and thank you for sharing this - I am sending sympathy from the many workers at the Church Shed Market which was held at Bethel Church for many years. Sandy was a regular visitor, and, we, so enjoyed his stories, and, he was so generous bringing us his unique canes to sell with proceeds to the market. He continued to come with his canes for the few years the market was held at our home His canes are spread out through a wide area, and, I have 2 myself. A wonderful person our sympathies to his family - June & Carl Drain

Uncle Sandy, what a guy! He & Aunt Elva have given me so much support over the years, especially so with Darby. They both were so giving of their time & love before & after my own parents passed. Oh & the stories! His reminiscing as a young man out west, to the hunt camp shenanigans, near & far auction adventures & anything else in between! (This is for Greg Wilson: I too know that admonished look & was told "Yes you do know them/what/how/where" ! ) His knowledge & love of nature was shared to all. Last summer he pointed out to me a young walnut sapling entwined in overgrowth behind a shop in Lakefield & wanted me to go get a shovel to dig it out! I was already concerned about our little "shortcut" let alone pressing our luck to salvaging a tree on private property! Uncle Sandy helped Dad & Mike Pickard put the accessible addition on my house nearly 28 yrs.ago, free of charge. Larry gave his time also! Uncle Sandy worked with Dad on Stoney Lake & both were respected & well known for their skills. They would be together so much that my Darby always thought they were brothers!!! As a father, he was so proud of his 4 kids, the grands & great-grans & g-g-g-daughter. My regret is missing out on his final field walk as we had planned before Corona but I did get to share a tea with him in Lakefield thanks to Norma. That day he pointed out to us the snowbanks in the parking lot & how he admired the way the sun made them glisten. I got that look from him again when I pointed out the dirty slush! He had his usual tartan hat & scarf on & raring to get on home to Izzy. Thank you for sharing Uncle Sandys service with us. Thank you for sharing him. Reunited with Aunt Elva Air hugs & kisses to Larry & Cathy, Stevie & Michelle, Norma, & Shelley & Dave & families. This "favourite" niece & kids are missing him too.

I've met many people in my life who act like they are happy to see you and some actually are. But you don't often encounter people who are as genuinely pleased and excited to see you as Uncle Sandy was. He always made me feel like he and I were in on some joke that nobody else knew about. He'd give great advice on what routes to take to get to places I'd never heard of. Or tell me all kinds of stories about the exploits of people I'd never heard of. But there was something in his manner that made you want to hear the stories and go visit the places.
I enjoyed the proceedings today greatly and I'm glad we were able to acknowledge the life of Uncle Sandy with some kind of ceremony. I thought it was tasteful and well done and I was glad to be able to attend.
My sincere condolences to all the family and friends grieving Sandy today.
He will be missed but not forgotten.

Dear Steve, Michelle and Norma,
Your Dad was such a good friend to my Father and to my Mother also. Norma you were so right in saying that he was only too happy to help people, and help he did. My Dad enjoyed his many travels with Sandy to pick up machinery all over Ontario. The conversations about farm machinery were never exhausted I am sure!
He was a kind man and was willing to share his knowledge with anyone. Most wonderfully was that anytime I saw him, he was always smiling. Such a gift to the human race. We need more people like him in our world.
May your happy memories of him bring you peace.
Sincerely,
Julie Stark (Caza)

My sincere condolences to the whole family. This obituary asks to share a memory, so I decided I would. My belated husband Bill Lewin and Sandy worked together in General Motors, Oshawa. There's way to many great memories, but here's a couple that come to mind. One thing that I'm sure he will always be remembered for is his great stories, never was one told without his hands flying around and never missed a detail. He would stop over almost every time he had an appointment in Oshawa we would sit and chat over lunch and his black tea, with his little dog.We loved hearing about his camping excursions, feeding HIS deer. ( they were his because he fed them) Never did he hunt his own deer just the wild one. Years ago he came baring gifts of a gavel and an very old rifle from the 1800's.( the rifle he only brought to show us) .You know he would bring down some venison, let me tell you , I enjoyed every bite. I'm sure I'll think of Sandy each and every time I eat venison till the day I meet my maker. I enjoyed listening to his adventures in all the big cars, he has driven coast to coast . I can picture him now pulling out his little note pad writing everything down, placing in front left pocket of whatever shirt he had on. Well I'm sure others would like to leave a message here, so I'll close this off with, Sandy its been a great pleasure knowing you, cheers until we meet again

So sorry about Sandy"s passing. I knew Sandy through my husband Bill Cowen (who passed away June 5th 2013.) Sand and Bill talked off and on through the years after they retired.
Jim Ireland and I met him at the causeway restaurant in Bridgenorth for breakfast one morning a couple of years ago. Your family has my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy.
Lynn Cowen....( Used to live in Little Britain but when Bill passed away I sold the farm and bought a bungalow in Cameron.)
