Obituary of John Hass

Arne Jorgen (John) Hass passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021 at Case Manor, Bobcaygeon, in his 94th year.  John was born in Copenhagen Denmark in 1927, emigrating to England in 1945.  He served in the British Army, Buffs Regiment, where he distinguished himself as an excellent training instructor of recruits. John later immigrated to Canada in 1956, arriving at Halifax, Pier 1.  John spent several years in Toronto before he found his forever home and settled in the Kawartha Lakes area with his loving wife Barbara.  He applied his determination and strong work ethic to establishing a family business with his wife and eldest son.  A man of many interests, John enjoyed reading, debating politics and current events, hand crafts, collecting stamps, cheering on the Leafs and singing in a local choral group.  John enjoyed the beauty and solitude of nature and the tranquility of life by the lake with his life partner Barbara and their precious dogs. Loving father of Wayne McNelly (Nancy), Karen Ustrzycki (Robert), Arne Hass (Kathy Lefebvre), Darcy Hass (Cathy).  Grandfather of Chris McNelly (Anne), Danielle McNelly-Knowles (Nathaniel), Tim McNelly (Jill), Renee Puyo (Rudy), Ryan Fishbein (Heidi), Jonathan Barley (Karmen) and Collette Barley (Jeet Singh). Great-grandfather of Josiah, David, Taliah and Abigail McNelly, Brody, Alice and Elliot McNelly-Knowles, Leo and Simon McNelly, Gabriel and Kaleb Puyo, Colton and Hunter Fishbein, Donte and Ayanna Barley, Ashton Barley and Ajay Barley. Beloved brother of Anne Lone Martensen, and Poul Jan Hass. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara who passed away December 20, 2019 and his grand-daughter Gloria Barley who passed away September 9, 2020. Special thanks to the many branches of community care services that made it possible for John to stay in his home as long as possible.  Sincere thanks to the staff of Case Manor for their many acts of kindness, loving care and support to John and our family. Arrangements entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME, MONK CHAPEL, BOBCAYGEON. Interred at Verulam Cemetery, Bobcaygeon, on April 22, 2021.
