KOLLAARD: Gail Gertrude

Passed away at Extendicare Lakefield on Saturday July 10, 2021.  Gail Kollaard of Lakefield in her 75th year.  She was born in Timmins Ontario and moved back to England until she was 10 years old when her family returned.  She was the oldest of seven. Gail had a passion for life and lived each day with a smile on her face.  There was nothing more important to her than her family.  Mike and Gail enjoyed vacationing in Florida for many years as well as other tropical destinations with friends.  Summers were always filled with boating trips.  Many of her nieces and nephews will remember Aunt Gail as she always rallied the troops to play all the games at family get togethers.  The involvement that Gail had with her church did not go unnoticed.  She volunteered every year to do music for the local Vacation Bible School and Christmas pageant as well as teach Sunday school and sing in the choir.  After her children were both in school full time Gail too went back to school to become a PSW because of coarse she had a passion for helping others.  Christmas will never be the same without listening to her singing carols while trying to bake some contraption in the kitchen.  I believe it was her favourite time of year and taught us all the true meaning of the holiday.  Loved and missed by her husband of 55 years, Mike Kollaard and her children Mark (Charlene) & Jennifer McIlwain (Rick), all of Lakefield.  Loving grandmother of Michael (Melissa), Allyson (Ashley), Ryan, Quinn and great grandchildren Maximus and Martin.  Survived by her sister Jean and brothers Melvin, Mitchell, Christopher Spooner and David Lawrence.  Predeceased by her mother Barbara Lawrence, father Guildor Spooner, step-father Ben Lawrence and sister Linda Fairbairn.  Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 81 Queen Street, Lakefield on Friday July 16, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ask that you register to attend the visitation at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL at 705-652-3355.  A private family funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM.  You are invited to watch the funeral service by clicking on the link available on the memorial page for Gail at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com.  Interment Lakefield Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Peterborough or the Renovation Fund for St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Lakefield, and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
