Dunford, Bernadine “Birdie” Joanne Marie

July 1927 – September 2021

 

On September 18, 2021 Birdie passed away at the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry Ontario with family by her side.  She will be remembered for her dedication to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and was excited to welcome her first great, great grandson in August of this year.  She will be remembered for her amazing knitting projects, & her wonderful skill with a needle and thread.  

She will be sadly missed by her children Donald (Ann), Nancy Lane (Jerry), Paul (Suzanne), Carol (Jack) & Murray.  Survived by her sisters Mary Lynch & Joanne Michaels and her sister-in-law Bernice Dunford.Predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Dunford and her son James.  Her brothers Joe Yzereef, Peter Yzereef, John Yzereef, & her sisters Louise Lesarge, Anna Scanlan, Helen Yzereef

On July 13, 1927, Bernadine (Birdie) J Dunford nee: Yzereef, was born in Ruurlo, The Netherlands.  daughter of Johannes & Helena W. Yzereef.  She came to Canada with her parents and siblings when she was 2 years old and settled in Coe Hill Ontario.  She left school when she was in the 6th grade to help raise her siblings after the death of her mother.  Her first job outside the home was at the Brock Ballroom where she met her future husband Joseph O. Dunford.  They were married on September 13, 1947 in Hastings, Ontario.  

Birdie had many hobbies over the years including golf, curling, knitting, reading and of course spending time in her gardens.  She took her dedication to community very seriously and spent countless hours volunteering and took a very active role in first the Lakefield Lioness Club and later the Lakefield Village Lions Club working tirelessly for local initiatives and fundraising.

ONE NEVER TRULY DIES WHEN THEY LIVE ON IN THE HEARTS OF OTHERS ….
