Obituary of June Metcalfe
June Metcalfe – September 7, 1925 – September 19, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful home going of June Metcalfe on Sunday, September 19th at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa at the age of 96. June was born in Stratford, Ontario and lived a good portion of her life there working for the local newspaper as a proofreader. She moved to Mississauga for a time and then upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Elim Lodge near Buckhorn and volunteered for 5 yrs before moving into Victoria Place, outside of Bobcaygeon, where she lived for over 20 years.
June was the loving mother of Beverley Steele, Christine MacNeil and William Metcalfe (Ruth). Grandmother of 7; Derek (Alisha), Mark (Kelli), Meghan (Darrick), Lindsay (Brad), Kelly (AJ), Leanna and William Jr and great-grandmother of 9; Avia, Isla, Finn, Paisley, Weston, Laykin, Abbanee, Jace, and Hayes. Predeceased by her husband Bill in September, 2008 and son-in-law Crawford Steele in August 2021. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and neighbours.
She will be remembered for her dedication to her Lord and Saviour and to her family. June was a great cook and she was always welcoming people into her home for a meal or sending meals to others in need. Even at 95, she would bake cookies to take to her friends at crafts or shuffleboard in Victoria Place and was known as the “cookie lady”.
A graveside service will be held at the Verulam Cemetery in Bobcaygeon on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Those close to June, who wish to attend, are welcome. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International. Friends and family may make donations and share condolences by contacting Hendren Funeral Homes.
