Obituary of Mary Alice Pollard

POLLARD: Mary Alice

Mary Pollard of Bobcaygeon, Ontario passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay surrounded by her family on Saturday August 27, 2022.  Mary is loved and missed by her husband and best friend of 62 years, Joseph Pollard.  Cherished mother of Theresa Jerrard (Jerry) of Bobcaygeon, Patricia Logan (Hugh) of Barrie, Michael Pollard (Natalee) of Tillsonburg, Kathleen Stewart (Fred) of Ballantrae and Rosemary Riel (Luc) of St. Albans, Vermont.  Loving grandma of Andrew (April), Christopher (Crystal), David, Kyle (Breanne), Brandon, Nicholas, Megan, Hannah and Danielle and great grandmother of Sadie, Elizabeth, Douglas, Emily, Caleb and Mason.  Also missed by her sisters Roseanne Hart (David) of Toronto, Clare Callaghan (Michael) of London and brother Stephen Houston of Ohio.  Predeceased by her parents Charles and Alice Houston and her mother-in-law Helen Dubé.  Mary was born in Toronto on April 13, 1941. She attended Notre Dame Highschool then taught for a few years before marrying Joe on August 27, 1960. She then spent the 60’s bringing her 5 children into the world. She supported and participated in an array of adventures with Joe which eventually took her to Bobcaygeon. Mary worked for 30 years at Foodland, was an avid gardener, volunteered in her community, and was an expert at word puzzles. If you could beat her at Scrabble, you knew you’d accomplished something. She never had a problem expressing her opinion when it mattered, and she was gifted with a razor sharp wit. Above all, Mary was (in her childrens’ eyes), the perfect mother. Her selfless approach to parenting struck a delicate balance between unwavering support and allowing her children to  learn from their own life experiences, all while maintaining her signature sense of  humor.  Her love extended to the 6 foster children she and Joe cared for. Cremation has taken place.  Friends and relatives may call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, MONK CHAPEL, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon on Friday September 9, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 18 Need Street, Bobcaygeon.  A reception will follow in the Parish Hall of the church.  Private family interment to follow at St. Luke’s R.C. Cemetery, Downeyville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation as expressions of sympathy and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.
