Betty Joan Hagerman

Obituary of Betty Joan Hagerman

Hagerman, Elizabeth Joan (Betty Joan)

Born March 25, 1934 and the loving wife of Glen Hagerman for 65 years passed peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on January 10, 2023 with her husband and family by her side. Betty Joan was the loving daughter of Russell and Margaret Towns (predeceased) and older sister to Robert Towns (predeceased). Betty Joan will be missed by her children, Neil, Craig (Brad), Scott (Marc), Lisa-Anne, Joanna (Russell) and her grandchildren Madeleine, Katherine and Adam. Betty Joan graduated from Ottawa Civic Hospital, class of 1955 as a Registered Nurse and provided loving care to all within her charge. Betty Joan enjoyed all aspects of nursing but was particularly proud of working in the labour and delivery ward, bringing new life into the world, and comforting nervous parents. She met her husband Glen at a church social in Kingston washing dishes and from that point, they would forever, hand in hand, create a beautiful life together. After retiring from nursing, Betty Joan went on to lead the Professional Telephone Answering Service, which was staffed by nurses and provided an answering service for the medical professionals in the Peterborough area. In her childhood she was an accomplished figure skater. Her passion for figure skating continued throughout her life, and she never missed the opportunity to follow figure skating. Betty Joan and Glen also founded and operated Loyalest Kennels and with the assistance of their children, raised and trained Manchester Terriers and Doberman Pinchers. That were highly successful raising

Confirmation and Obedience champions. Betty Joan was instrumental in bringing Dance Fit to the Peterborough Board of Education (night school). Betty Joan and Glen would dance the evening away while providing physical exercise for all participants. As a family, they enjoyed many summers camping in Algonquin Park and after the children had grown, Betty Joan and Glen opted for winters in Florida where they enjoyed the peacefulness and the opportunity to watch the manatees and the dolphins. Betty Joan was a loving, caring, kind and devoted mother to all her children and grandchildren. She always had a twinkle in her eye and smile on her lips. She leaves behind her husband and a family who loved her deeply for everything she was.
