Marjorie Lucking

Obituary of Marjorie Georgina Lucking

LUCKING (Simpson):  Marjorie Georgina  –  August 21, 1935 - April 2, 2023

Marjorie passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Peterborough Regional Health Center after a brief battle with cancer.  She was born in Puslinch Township and spent her youth in the Guelph area.  She trained as a nurse at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, where she met Ted, the love of her life, on a blind date; they were married at Duff’s Presbyterian Church outside of Guelph in 1958.  Marj and Ted spent over 30 years in northern Ontario, primarily in Kapuskasing and Cochrane, where she dedicated her time to her husband and children as a homemaker, and to her community as a school nurse.  Marj and Ted moved to Owen Sound in 1993 where she stayed after Ted’s passing in 1999, until 2018 when she moved to Peterborough to be closer to family.

Marj will best be remembered for her love of God, and of her family and her friends. She was an active member of all the churches to which she belonged, especially St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Owen Sound, where she established some of her most meaningful friendships through the ladies’ Bible study group and the Tuesday morning sandwich makers. Marj cultivated lifelong relationships and stayed in touch with family and friends loyally through the decades. Marj enjoyed playing cards,  particularly bridge and euchre, and she was an avid fan of Canadian curling and Blue Jays baseball.

Marj was the devoted wife of the late Edward Harry “Ted” Lucking; the beloved mother of Greg Lucking (Sandy) of Peterborough and Beth Lucking (David Alger) of Texas; the dear Nana of grandsons Ryan Lucking of Peterborough and Andrew (Heidi) Lucking of Timmins; the beloved GG of great granddaughter  Peyton; the adored godmother of Jonathon O’Donoughue of North Bay.  She will be  greatly missed by all who knew her.

Marj is survived by her children, grandsons and great granddaughter, her sister-in-law Gena Simpson and nephews Terry Simpson and Randy Simpson. She is predeceased by her husband Ted Lucking, her parents Annie and Donald Simpson, her brother Douglas Simpson, and her nephew Ronnie Simpson.

A celebration of life, followed by interment and reception will be held at Duff’s Presbyterian Church, 319 Brock Road South, Puslinch, Ontario on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 1:30 pm.
