Obituary of Laurence Edward Reed

REED: Laurence (Larry) Edward

September 24, 1939 – April 19, 2023

Larry died at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Wednesday April 19, 2023, in his 84th year.

Larry loved his family and friends.  He enjoyed the decades of his life spent with his wife, Linda, and the several canines they raised and loved during their marriage.  He happily remembered the conversations and coffees he shared with his close friend Brian.  Larry felt fortunate that his life included his two sisters Lynda and Sharon (Bob); his children, Em (Bern) and Paul (Lora); his granddaughter Hayley; the weekly breakfast team; the Horton Farm and the horses; Walkabout with Pat & David; as well as all his friends.

A graduate of University of Toronto in mechanical engineering, Larry changed his approach and became a Chartered Accountant (now CPA).  He had a long career in municipal finance having worked in the Audit Department of the former Metro Toronto and as Deputy Treasurer for the former City of Toronto. He retired while holding the position of Treasurer for the Town of Richmond Hill.  Retirement allowed Larry the time to build and enjoy the woodworking workshop he always wanted.

Larry, endured multiple medical issues from the time he was a teenager, but he attempted to maintain independence and privacy while dealing with others in his gentle way.  He was thankful for the many who made his life easier.

At Larry’s request, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.  In lieu of the tradition of flowers or donations, Larry asked that you consider the treasure of friendship by finding time to have a coffee and a chat with a good friend.

Arrangements entrusted to Hendren Funeral Homes, Lakefield Chapel, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield, www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or 705-652-3355.
