EARNSHAW: Gordon Glen “Glen”
Passed away peacefully at Tri-Town Extendicare, Haileybury, Ontario on Thursday December 21, 2023. Glen Earnshaw of Apsley in his 86th year. Glen was born at the Red Cross hospital in Apsley and lived in Apsley for the majority of his life. He qualified as a butcher early in his married life but he retired from the department of Highways where he operated graders, dump trucks and snowplows. He enjoyed running a small farm to supplement his family’s support. In the home he built he lived beside his mother, and along with his siblings, help cared for her until her death. He loved being in the woods cutting firewood for the home and logs to make lumber to build his famous wishing wells. During his life, He had several heavy horses he logged with. He truly enjoyed hockey and never lost hope that the Toronto Maple Leafs could one day win the Stanley Cup again. He and Beatrice camped often, later in life, he and Beatrice took several trips to warm locations and truly enjoyed these adventures together. Throughout his life he looked forward to and relished the annual deer hunt. He enjoyed the friendship with the hunters, spending time with family and being in nature. He loved to enjoy his yard by sitting on his deck or by his sliding doors looking out and smoking his pipe.
Loving husband of the late Beatrice Mary (Mitchell). Sadly missed by his children Donna Earnshaw Pollard (Jeffery) and Brian Earnshaw (Barb Mercer). Dear grandpa of Nicholas, Courtney and Cassie Earnshaw, Lianne, Jamie and Cavan Pollard and 7 great grandchildren. Survived by his sisters Rena Stephens, Rhoda Peebles, Georgina Hillis, Gail Smith (Mike), sister-in-law Linda Ainsworth (Rick), brothers-in-law John and Bob Mitchell (Pauline) and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Florence, son Gordon Stanley Earnshaw, sister Rita Earnshaw, brothers-in-law Will Peebles, Don Hillis and Ray Stephens. A funeral service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM. Interment Apsley Union Cemetery following.
