Obituary of Frederick Herbert Allison

ALLISON: Sir Frederick Herbert (Fred)

April 12, 1922 - December 9, 2024

Fred passed peacefully from this earth into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday December 9, 2024.

Fred was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the youngest of five children, to Robert and Alice Allison and worked as a teenager with the family business, Allison Brothers Movers. Fred then answered the call to fight for his country and entered WWII, working as an army motor mechanic.

In 1943, Fred married the love of his life, Jessie (Hewitt) and they went on to spend 60 years together. Their family was blessed with four children, Joan, Jayne, Larry, and Brad and grew to include spouses and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred worked hard to achieve his goal of retiring at 50, which he accomplished, moving to the home he built in Lakefield for he and Jessie to spend their retirement. Not content to sit around, he kept busy for the next 50 years, doing jobs as a handyman.

In 2022, Fred was knighted with the French Legion of Honour, the highest French order of merit for his participation in the Liberation of France after D-Day.

Many will know Fred as the man who built Melody Motel, raised deer while in his 70s and proudly wore his army jacket and medals at the Remembrance Day ceremonies. We know him as the man who lived a life of giving and helping others.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 12, 2025 at Lakefield Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lakefield Royal Canadian Legion Branch 77 would be gratefully appreciated. Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield, www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.

Many thanks to the staff at Riverview Manor for their excellent care of Fred the past few months.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
