I met Jim in June 1991 when I joined Pioneer. He was a born leader and would never back down from a challenge. The industry went through some hard times back in the 90's and Jim was instrumental in getting Pioneer through those tough years because of his leadership abilities.

Jim and I enjoyed fine cigars and fine scotch many times on the dock at Stoney Lake. I thoroughly enjoyed our time talking about the oil industry and would be in awe of Jim's knowledge, his observations, his quick wit and his laugh. We got talking so intently, and for so long, that the hours flew by and Susan would suddenly announce "it's getting dark and its time to go Jim!" Thank you so much for your friendship and those simulating conversations Jim, I am a better man and a smarter person because of you. I feel blessed that we had that time together my friend, and I will miss you very much. To Susan, I know this time is sooo very hard for you, I wish you and your family comfort as you grieve the loss of Jim.

Oh Dear Susan,

Jim taught the boys to fish off the dock when they were little. Graydon hated hooking the worm, but Jim kept on, making sure that he did it for himself. Every time they tried to cast a line, it would get caught up in a deck chair or drop a foot away into the water. Jim persevered, until they could cast a line by themselves. It took the better part of the morning! He taught them how to find the "good firewood" and to build a proper campfire. Thank you, Jim, for those lessons you gave so generously. May your beautiful strength live on in those who were lucky enough to know you.
To Susan and family, our deepest sympathy. May you find courage and strength in Jim's beautiful spirit.
