James Flindall

Obituary of James Robert Flindall

Jim, a man of integrity, courageously and peacefully passed away on Friday, May 25th surrounded by family. Jim was the oldest of four sons, predeceased by his father, Vernon “Buzz” Flindall, and his brother David Brian Flindall. Jim was a son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather, in turn. Jim was a well-known and well-loved figure around his final home on Stoney Lake, which he shared with his wife Susan. Jim was a natural and respected leader, admired for his conviction and strength of character. He had strong opinions, which were not always agreed with, but always respected. It’s no secret that Jim was an accomplished business man who rose through the ranks of Sunoco/Suncor, was instrumental in privatizing Canada Post, and went on to be Chief Operating Officer and President of Pioneer Energy.  Friends will remember him as a dedicated and hard-working man with many passions and hobbies. Jim was a self-taught craftsman, skilled in virtually every trade, his favourite being woodwork. He generously used these skills to help family and friends and has left many beautiful creations behind.  Jim also loved sports. He was a natural athlete and stayed active until his body was no longer able to match his will. Curling at the Lakefield Curling Club was one of his favourite pastimes. As anyone who’s met him will know, Jim’s passion, generosity and warmth leaves a lasting impression. On May 25th, he died as he lived: on his own terms. Jim, you are loved and will never be forgotten. The family is planning a private Celebration of Life. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Prostate Cancer Canada by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
