I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Flynn.
My family has owned a cottage on Gold Lake since the 1950's.
The drive from Toronto to Gold Lake was long and tedious. Our arrival at Flynne's corner was welcomed with much enthusiasm and we always stopped for gas and supplies. and to talk with Mr. Flynn.
Mr Flynn was such a warm, dignified, gracious and patient man, such wonderful qualities in a human being.
I began to see Flynnes corner and Mr. Flynn as the welcome mat to our cottage and the beautifull Kawartha lakes . The rest of the drive to the cottage was a pathway of pleasure.
My sincere sympathy to Mt. Flynne's family. He will be greatly missed.

All the Priestmans loved Tom: my grandmother Nellie; my parents, Al & Joan; my brother, Keith and his family; and Liz, Charleigh and Georgia. My parents used to tell me about how Tom and Charlie, his dad, used to deliver blocks of ice to cottagers on the River. Many probably remember his early morning coffee club. I will remember his cheerful greetings. Tom will be missed. Our deepest condolences to the entire family.

Michelle and Margaret,
So sad to hear of your dad's passing. I will always remember his humour and laugh. Spent many days "working" at the store, helping my mom. He was such an important part of mom and dad's past as they had some "exciting" times together. Love the stories! Thinking of both of you and your family at this time. Cindy and family.

To Tom’s family you have my deepest condolences. I am certain many people who he touched with his kindness and overall approach to life will remember him fondly and he was a highly respected teacher. I was in Mr. Flynn’s classes for grade 5, 6, and I think 7 at Otonabee Valley. He was a superlative teacher and the benchmark for all my teachers who followed. He was one of the very best and he had a deep sense of personal responsibility for his students. He made every effort to take care of all of us. I will remember his amusement where he smiled just from the corner of his mouth when he could see the humour of a situation but nonetheless had to sort us out and keep us in line. He often shielded us from the Principal and we dodged a few things. He had remarkable leadership skills to motivate students to achieve their best results.
He had great interest in our sports and the running of field days and getting our 1967 Centennial Athletic Awards. On one Sunday two of us rode our bikes up to his house from the River Road South/ It must have been 35 kms and we were exhausted. I think he was a bit surprised to see us, and I am sure he saw enough of us at school. But he was very gracious and generous providing us dinner and driving us back to the main highway to go home. He was always very kind in these situations. I guess we couldn’t get enough of him. I learned a great deal from him, and several life lessons he taught me remain with me to this day. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and he was an instrumental mentor, guide and coach in shaping me into who I became. I only wish I had taken a moment to visit him these past years to say thank you. I am so thankful he was a part of my life and I am sorry to hear this news. The family must appreciate he was a giant of a man. God Bless Tom and thank you! Alan Williams Halifax NS

My children always looked forward to stopping at the store to get an ice cream cone. My mother would wonder why my father would drive from the cottage to the store each day when he could have easily purchased what he needed for the week in one trip. Of course it was to say hello to Tom. I remember when it had been a number of years since I had been to the cottage at Catchacoma while living in BC. On my way to the cottage for the first time in years I stopped at the store and was surprised when I walked in and Tom said, I haven't seen you in a long time are you back from BC? His question let me know that I was recognized, and that my father had been sharing stories with him. To me, this meant "welcome home" It connected all my memories of tradition at the cottage, the days when I would stop to get a few cents of gas in my motorcycle, learning to drive by gong up the winding 507, fresh tomatoes, corn on the cob. I was honored to introduce my children such a kind and gentle man, as my father was to introduce Tom to me. R.I.P Tom

My deepest condolences. Mr. Flynn was my favourite teacher growing up. I had him in grades 4 and 6. Even though we lost touch when my family moved to Toronto, I have very fond memories of his kindness and generosity. I still vividly remember a school trip we took to Niagara Falls that he organized. He was very patient with a group of rambunctious kids. He will be deeply missed.

To the Flynn family and Tom's many friends,
Having had the privilege of having had a family property up 507 on Catchacoma Lake for 4 generations, Flynn's Corners is ubiquitous with a lifetime of memories. Stopping there for gas with my late grandparents (Norm and Hilda Durnan), meant that soon we would be there when it was merely a 1 room cabin. And Tom would be there to gas up the car. (Better yet, perhaps the chance to go inside the store for an ice cream cone! Mmmm, blueberry.)
Years later, living in Bobcaygeon, I would frequently stop by, say, for honey.
And if Pearsons Landing ran out of milk, or didn't have the Toronto Star, or, catastrophically, ran out of bait, it was always worth a quick run down to Flynn's.
The house on Catch has since been sold off, to my great regret. Would that I could still live there in Heaven North. Tom managed to make it there, and indeed, always was there when we needed him. On behalf of my late great-grandparents, Len and Elsie Watts, my late aforementioned grandparents who knew Tom so well, my mom, Wendy Bloesel and her late husband(s) Horst Bloesel and Peter Janeck, as well as the sundry loves of my life who came to know Flynn's Turn so well, and me too, thank you, Tom. Your service to your community established you and your family business as an essential keystone. You were so familiar, friendly, reliable. You touched more lives than you know.
With condolences and fond memories, sincerely, Steve Janeck.

My heart sank when I saw the news. Mr. Flynn was a great example to a kid that things can happen if you keep at them and don't give up. I type this with tears in my eyes and memories of learning how to make coffee at the store for early morning hunters that didn't want a cup of three scoops of coffee grinds and water. The movie ET and a trip with the baseball team, i think it was grade 6 from Chemong Public to Toronto to watch a Blue Jays game that he arranged and paid for out of his own generosity. The sight of the green grass and the baseball field still sits in my mind as an iconic image of baseball.
Mr. Flynn always had a warm way of welcoming you with a smile and something to say, you may not be here, but your efforts, advise, and character lives on in all the students that know you. You were a mentor, a coach, a teacher, a pillar, and a gentleman. You will be missed, but not forgotten as guys like you live on forever.

My dad bought our cottage on Beaver Lake in 1952, a couple of years before I was born. We many times stopped at Flynn's Mr. Flynn was the nicest guy. Patient with us young kids. Later I remember him open the store near midnight so a couple of dumb young cottagers could get some stove oil they just ran out of. That was myself and Grant J.
Mr. Flynn you will be truly missed. The world needs more people like yourself. Deepest condolences to all family and friends,

My deepest condolences to the whole family. My family has been coming up to our cottage on the Mississagua River for over 40 years, and Tom (or "Mister Flynn" as I refer to him to this day, since I first met him as a four year old) has been a comforting and friendly presence throughout those decades. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of my family stopping to gas up and (for me) to buy comics to read over the weekend at the cottage.
Such a friendly and warmhearted man, and his legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of the area and our own personal memories of the cottage.
Rest in Peace.

Visiting Mr. Flynn at the corner was an indelible memory of my youth and exciting start to every trip to our family hunt camp with my grandfather Rod Nichols. My grandfather ALWAYS made a stop at the store, where we were greeted by a friendly and interested Mr. Flynn. I had a great respect for this ritual and relationship, and was proud to continue the tradition with my nephew and son over the years, after my grandfather passed away. My condolences to the Flynn family- he was a kind gentleman and his store was a staple of my youth.

I enjoyed observing and writing about his love for supporting minor sports and he obviously loved taking command of a team in a tournament on the road so the parents could have mommy and daddy time, paying for hotel rooms out of his own pocket..
