I did not know Arnie for a long time, just since I became friends with Niki in 2006. I just love this one memory when Niki invited me over to the Watkins family reunion in 2008. The entire family made me feel right at home. The sweetest gesture was when Arnie handed me my own personal DVD copy of the family photos, addressed to "Nancy Watkins Family Reunion" - which still sits in my personal photo collection to this day. This made Niki and I laugh quite a bit, as I had become an honorary member of the Watkins family.
This story shows how sweet, warm and welcoming Arnie was, and by the stories I have heard over the years from my friendship with Niki, he was truly a great father, an extraordinary man, that travelled the world, loved his family.
Please accept Mark and I's deepest condolences in this difficult time.

Carol (Trumble) Galloway: My earliest memory of Arnie is from Grade two. Arnie sat at the desk in front of me, and we were all colouring. I have no recollection of what I had drawn. But I remember like it was yesterday what Arnie was doing. He had drawn two horses, and was colouring them blue. I was surprised and confused. Why did he colour them blue? In my whole life, though short to that point, I had seen quite a few horses, but none of them blue. I have never forgotten his. We will plant a blue lilac in the garden for him, and think of him often, remembering all our good times together. Our sincere condolences to Chelsea and Niki, family, and everyone who loved Arnie and will miss him.
Terry Galloway: I’ll add one memory from many years ago, back in the late 1970s. Arnie and Dorothy were passing through Winnipeg and stayed with us in our apartment. We sat up until very late, when Arnie was asking me about my research with mosquitoes. I explained that I had thousands of hungry mosquitoes in cages, and fed them on my arms when they needed a blood meal. He thought he would like to try that. So at about 2:00 AM, we went in to my department at the University, weaving slightly up the stairs. Arnie fed about 50 mosquitoes on his forearms, and discovered, first hand, how mighty Manitoba mosquitoes can be. We are grateful for all our memories.

Arnie: Today I took you for your last ride in my Challenger. Enjoy the Speed! If we had been stopped in Canada, I would have immediately lost my license and car. I love you! Paul

Although we knew Arnie's health was failing, it was a surprise to learn of his passing. We looked forward to the visit from him and Paul the past few summers. Their time here passed quickly, as we shared lots of family memories, and enjoyed reminiscing. Arnie was so proud of his daughters and their families, and loved the time he spent with them. His artistic talent was incredible.
Our condolences to his family - he certainly will be missed, but leaves special memories.

We have fond memories of Arnold and always enjoyed his quiet, gentle manner. He really enjoyed the annual "pig roast" held by my brother John. Arnold was so very talented and will be missed by all of us.
Your wonderful words certainly described a life well lived but far to short.
Our thoughts and prayers to you and your families at this time.
Take care,
Linda & Dan Marshman
