So sad to hear of Dr Sherin's passing. My deepest sympathy goes to all of his family and friends who will miss him deeply. To read his obituary though, brought a smile to my face to read of his life and adventures, and prompted me to remember his involvement with our family as our family doctor in Lakefield. I'm sure his family would agree that "Family Doctor" is another word for never truly being off work. Only in Lakefield would his daughter Barbara (she and I were school chums at the time) answer the door in the late evening to find my dad Don standing there with a fish hook stuck in his eyebrow. And her dad jumped to open up the office and deal with the crisis at hand. My 'make you smile' memory of him was how he smoothed out and polished up the new cast on my broken arm so it would look suitably fancy for my grade 8 graduation! He cared, he was reassuring and real. And he will be greatly missed. In Sympathy, Lorrie Fife(Montgomery)

Aaniin. My name is Anne Taylor. Dr Sherin delivered me. My mom's name was Zelda. My mom told me that when she was carrying me she decided it would be best to give me up for adoption. She already had a child at home and another child born 'out of wedlock' was almost too much for her. She signed the papers with the Sisters of St Joseph. When I was born Dr Sherin made my mom hold me because my future was uncertain. She said she held me and couldn't let me go. So I got to stay with my mom. Every time I saw Dr Sherin I thanked him for what he did for me and my mom. He was a wonderful man and I will be forever grateful to him. My condolences to family, friends and community.

I'm saddened to read of the passing of Uncle John as we kids called him, J.P. as my parents called him. I have many memories of him telling stories, suitable for children, on warm summer evenings at Stony Lake. He was always available whenever a toe was slammed on a rock, or someone went too close to the poison ivy or had a sore throat. In the evenings I'd crouch by the window so I could hear the adult versions, but sleep often overtook me. My condolences to all of you. Uncle John, J.P. was a very special man. I was so sorry to hear about J.P.'s death. He was a wonderful man and a true gentleman. He embodied all the qualities of a family doctor. I have good memories of him at the lake. He not only put my hand in a cast but he lent us his cat Lady to clear the island of mice. Lady had a great summer and was noticeably fatter when the summer ended. He and Blanche were good friends to my mom Ann Underhill. I am sure there were a lot of stories about he and his friends at the lake that could not be shared in polite company. I bet that Puss and Ev will be there to greet him with drinks in hand Robin Underhill Barnes
