SHILLING: Dixie Pearl
Passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday February 15, 2022. Dixie Shilling of Curve Lake in her 75th year. Dixie was instrumental in developing and managing the Curve Lake Day Care Centre for many years. In 2006 she received an Anishinaabe Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with the day care and its importance in the community. She also made significant contributions to what is best known as “Daycare Island.” She was very active in many areas of the community and was an active member of the Curve Lake United Church. She was a major influence and a foster parent to many. She is dearly missed by her husband Jerry Shilling and her children Dixie Shilling (Max Boast) of Curve Lake and Nicholas Shilling of Curve Lake. Dear ‘Nopie’ of Desiree (Manny), Ella Rose, Libbydow, Parker, Faith, Thomas, William and Nicholas and great grandma to Christopher and Arthur Vaughn. Also missed by her sisters Joanne (Phillip), Althea (Dennis) and Mary and brothers Dan, James (Michelle), Elmer (Kim), Lorenzo (Jodi), Wes (Leona), Mark (Carol), Arnold (Stacy) and Christopher. Remembered by her brother-in-law Eugene, sisters-in-law Sylvia “Giga”, Vivian (Junior) and Edith and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Murray and Elva, sister Lovenia, brothers-in-law John, Truman (Pat), Wesley and nephew Jeremy. Visitation will be held at CURVE LAKE CHURCH on Tuesday February 22, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday February 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
