Obituary of Donald Frederick Nickel

Don passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre after a lengthy illness. He will be greatly missed by his wife Kathleen (Kay), after 55 years of sharing life and companionship together. Don is survived by his sister, Margaret (Rtd. Gen. Paul) of Ottawa, sister-in-law, Mavis Atton (Dave) of Annan, and his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Don grew up in Kemptville, Ontario. He graduated in 1955 from the University of Toronto with Mus. Bac. and B.A. degrees. For 33 years he taught music at Runnymede Collegiate in Toronto, producing a band program recognized province-wide for its quality. Don found his teaching to be a rewarding experience and a privilege to have worked with so many fine students. Retirement years were lived happily at his cottage, travelling, bird watching, and doing things he loved to do. He was always grateful to the wonderful staff of Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their care and kindness. A memorial service will take place at St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, 81 Queen Street Lakefield on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 1:30 PM. A reception will follow the service at the THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES - LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 QUEEN STREET, LAKEFIELD. Inurnment to follow the reception at Lakefield Cemetery.
