I remember Gale from the 70’s when he befriended my dad, Don Welsh. He came to see my dad when he had terminal cancer at the house…..it had been years since we last saw him. We were enjoying chatting and yet not really sure who it was. We thought Dad knew who he was. Finally, my husband walked to where Gale was sitting, offered to shake hands and said I’m Jeff and wondering who you are? And Gale responded….then we all knew including my dad. That’s an aha moment.
Gale helped my dad roof our house in the 70’s too which was so thoughtful. We youngsters brought up the shingles. At one point, my brother Wayne went sliding down the roof. We all watched in horror. And just as he was about to go off the edge, Gale reached out and grabbed him. Wayne was hanging in mid air off the roof edge with Gale’s hand firmly around his wrist. He was the hero of the day. I remember his great sense of humour and his kindness. My heart and thoughts go out to his family and friends.
