PULFER: Christine Edna Mary Carmel Jane (nee Sharman), RN


Passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of the palliative care unit of PRHC on Friday September 8, 2023, at the age of 79. 

Christine was born in England and at age 1 came to Canada with her parents, the late Percy and Jacqueline Sharman and older sister Patricia. In Canada her late sister Valerie and brother Ed were born. Christine graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1966. She married her husband Fred in 1968.  She worked in the recovery room at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston and in the Emergency Department at Civic Hospital in Peterborough before devoting her life to community nursing with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) for 37 years. In 1986 she was named Nurse of the Year for Peterborough and in 2003, she received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her work in the community. 

She will be dearly missed by husband (Fred), daughters Tanya (Allan) and Natasha, granddaughters Katrina, Cassandra and Fenja; siblings Patricia (Edgar) and brother Ed (Shirley), brother-in-law (Rick), nieces and nephews Christopher, Jamie, Erika, Will, Jenny, Kim, Scott, Angela, Theresa, Jody, Tracey, Pam. 

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Christine’s Life will be held at Elmhirst’s Resort, 1045 Settlers Line, Keene, on Sunday October 15, 2023 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  Memories will be shared at 2:00 PM.  Please honour Christine by doing as she would and wear bright coloured clothing.  Memorial donations may be made to Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (L.A.W.S.) or Hospice Norwood as expressions of sympathy, and may be made by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, NORWOOD CHAPEL, 36 Queen Street, Norwood, at or by calling 705-639-5322.  The family wishes to thank the incredible care givers that took exceptional care of Christine.
