I'm so saddened to hear of your mom's passing. What a gift to the world she was. Huge heart so full of kindness and compassion. I'm sorry I missed her reception, I would have been there, I had no idea; I'm so sorry.

This in memory of a dear childhood friend and school chum. Val and I had wonderful times together in and outside of public school. Clifford and Eleanor were very kind to me and introduced me to frogs legs! Happily, in recent years we were able to reconnect through our yearly high school reunion gatherings. I am greatly saddened by Val’s passing and extend my heartfelt condolences for your loss.

My dearest and oldest friend, mentor, and second mom passed away today.
I am heartbroken, but also extremely thankful that this beautiful, hilarious, whirlwind of a woman came into my life when I was 10 years old, and took me on the ride of a lifetime.
Over the next 42 years, our relationship shifted from one of motherly guidance, to mentorship, and finally settling into a deep and lasting friendship full of hilarity, shenanigans, and a deep loving respect on both sides.
I could talk to her about my demons, and celebrate my triumphs when I felt I couldn’t share these with anyone else. She was a rock in my life for which I knew I could, and would be forever anchored to. She just had this gravity about her that drew you in. I am truly grateful for her love, generosity, and kindness throughout my life.
My joy and happiness this season will be remembering all the other Christmas’ we had celebrated together, and I became like one of the family. Yes, those are the Christmas memories I will hold onto as I walk through the grieving process during this time of celebration and merrymaking. She would have wanted that.
I love and miss you already Val. Merry Christmas my dearest friend. Love you always, Angie

I've so enjoyed re-connecting with Val these past few years attending Lakefield "Boomers" dinners. We hadn't seen one another since high school, and had great conversations. I won't be attending the service tomorrow due to illness, but please know Vicki, Cindy, Mike and Tim that you are held close at heart, and that a donation has been made to Hospice in Val's honour.

My only regret in meeting Valorie is that I didn't have the chance to meet her years earlier. Our friendship was too brief, but so rewarding. Valorie was a special person who lovingly embraced her family, friends, pets (who were also her family) and all animals and nature. I, along with everyone who knew her, will miss her. My heart goes out to her children Dan and Catie.

My condolences to Dan, Catie and Amelia and the rest of Val's family-most of whom I have not met.
I worked for Val at StatCan from 2006 to 2012. She was a wonderful person and we stayed in touch over the years.
She had a rough couple of years with the cancer which went away and came back and repeated the process until the end. She put up a good fight and had a great time in life, touching many wherever she went.
Val headed up NAHO, helped with the start-up of Wabano and served on the Board of Directors, and The Aboriginal Stats Program at STATCAN.
Val and I spent two years trying to get approval to send Indigenous interviewers on some of the Mohawk Reserves for the Census. We finally got approval, but they powers that be, they sent Mikmaq interviewers on the Mohawk Reserves.
As the Mohawks and Mikmaq are traditional enemies, the Mohawks politely asked the interviewers to leave.
Sometimes you cannot win for losing! But we had a great chuckle!
Rest easy Val, it was good to have known you.

My family met Val, Brian and the kids about 1984 at their home/farm, on a visit from nyc. We visited in subsequent summers as well and always enjoyed riotous good times and great fresh-picked food. Val was a force of nature with a huge heart and boundless energy and love. I’m glad her last days were peaceful. With love and admiration,
dorothy Siegel (and Liz and Sam).

Val epitomized what I most value in a person, kindness and generosity of her time. Among other things, I will miss her wicked sense of humour and the way she crinkled up her eyes when she laughed and smiled. The world was a better place while she was in it.
Peace, Val.

I sure liked Valorie. I met her back in the 70's through her friend, the late Beverley Cook (Knott). She had just moved out to the family property north of Buckhorn. For a short time we moved in the same circles, but life took us in different directions. In the 90's we met again by chance on the Trent University campus. We shared memories, happy and sad, talked of family and kids... It was long ago those days, fifty years, but Valorie has remained dear to my heart. I am so saddened she is gone.

Val was friend to all beings, she was one of those angels who walks the earth for a time. I will be forever grateful to her for so many kindnesses and for her compassion. A great role model and mentor, Val was the co-chair of the Trent Indigenous Alumni Chapter and gave generously of herself. I appreciate having been blessed to know her.
This is a photo recently taken with her rescue lambs who she later homed to a sanctuary in Ottawa where she made sure they would have a long life and continue to be well loved.
